Kiwimbi 5K & Walk for Thought
Saturday May 6th, 9:00 am
Duke Island Park, Bridgewater NJ
Join us in-person or virtually for a family-friendly 5K or our 45 minute Walk for Thought.
Why 45 Minutes? That’s the average amount of time the kids we support need to walk one-way each day to get to school.
Registration is now Open!

In addition to your registration, you have the option to fundraise for Kiwimbi by asking family and friends to contribute to your 5K or Walk in support of our mission. You can even create a team and include your friends! If you raise over $400 we will cover your registration fee as our way of thanking you.
Sponsorship opportunities are also available here!
Catch Up with Lewis – 10 Years of Kiwimbi
Ten years ago, Kiwimbi began with nothing more than the desire to create opportunity through education for people in a very underserved rural area in western Kenya and some hard-working folks eager to make change. We didn’t even have a building!
Today, ten years later, we have a borrowed building that we have lovingly and beautifully restored. It houses Kiwimbi’s Library collection of over 30,000 books and serves as the home base for all of our programs. In total, over 75 schools access our books for their students! Kiwimbi’s programs help children with their academics in school, and they are passing the required Grade 8 national exam at a higher rate than ever- in 2021 the pass rate was 63%, up from a rate of 38% in 2019 as we have developed and refined our programs and surpassing the national average of 19%.
The adults in our free tailoring and carpentry vocational programs have a 100% retention rate and the students are well-prepared for their exams at the completion of their courses. In fact, all of the tailoring students in 2021 took their certification exam and passed! Our cultural preservation programs and museum ensure important cultural traditions will be preserved, and our fine arts program develops skills in this often-neglected area of instruction in rural schools.
This is your invitation to continue the ripple of change, providing thousands of children in rural Kenya the opportunity to receive educational supports that would otherwise not be available.
Kiwimbi 5K and Walk for Thought
The first in-person Kiwimbi 5K & Walk for Thought was a huge success and so much fun! Special thanks to our sponsors, volunteers and participants. We already look forward to next year’s event!

An exciting conversation with author Wanjiku wa Ngugi about her book “Seasons in Hippoland“. As reviewed by the Chicago University Press, “Captivating and enchanting, Seasons in Hippoland plays with the tradition of magic realism. Every image in this novel is a story, and every story is a call for resistance to anyone who tries to confine our imagination or corrupt our humanity.”

Golfing for the Greater Good!
Thank you to everyone who came out for the Prestige Invitational in September to support the work of Kiwimbi and Kavirondo. And a special thank you to H.E. Dorothy Nyong’o for joining us, for delighting us with her kindness, her enthusiasm and her support! We were truly impressed and she is well deserving of the recognition for her own work with the Africa Cancer Foundation!
