John’s travels to Kenya with his wife, Lynne, made him appreciate the stark contrast between the resources we take for granted, like books and libraries, with the severe lack of resources in less fortunate parts of the world. Several years ago he made a conscious decision to delay retirement as a reinsurance executive in order to provide more philanthropic support to causes he believes in, with Kiwimbi being at the top of the list.

John believes Kiwimbi is different from many other charities active in foreign countries that Americans can become involved with, in that it is a full-time, locally run learning center that has been embraced by, and receives its energy from, volunteers and staff from the local community.
